It looks like the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has come to an end

We may finally be learning Victoria’s Secret and it’s that the famous fashion show is coming to an end. That is, according to model Shanina Shaik. The Australian model has walked the highly sought-after runway five times since 2011, so as far as sources go, she seems pretty credible.

While there has been no official comment from Victoria’s Secret, Shaik told Australia’s The Daily Telegraph: “Unfortunately the Victoria’s Secret show won’t be happening this year. It’s something I’m not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an angel. But I’m sure in the future something will happen, which I’m pretty sure about. I’m sure they’re trying to work on branding and new ways to do the show because it’s the best show in the world.”

Shaik walked the Victoria’s Secret runway show in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and in 2018, with the most recent show possibly acting as the final chapter of the televised special. The event has been gracing televisions everywhere since 2001, with each special featuring a documentary-style lead-up to the big day, often showing the models working out, traveling, and attending their fittings. As for the runway portion, it’s a joint fashion show and rock concert. Artists like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Halsey, The Chainsmokers and more have all played the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

In May, the New York Times obtained a leaked email from Leslie Wexner, chief executive of Victoria’s Secret’s parent company, L Brands. In the email, Wexner alluded to the pivot away from the beloved TV special, saying “Fashion is a business of change. We must evolve and change to grow. With that in mind, we have decided to re-think the traditional Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.” Wexner added “Going forward we don’t believe network television is the right fit. In 2019 and beyond, we’re focusing on developing exciting and dynamic content and a new kind of event—delivered to our customers on platforms that she’s glued to… and in ways that will push the boundaries of fashion in the global digital age.”

Despite the high-profile musical acts, celebrity-name models like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, and the stunning costumes, including the yearly multi-million-dollar fantasy bra, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been declining in viewership. What the next phase of the fashion show will look like is still unclear, but we have a feeling it will still be really, really, ridiculously good looking.
