Mantsho by Palesa Mokubung will be collaborating with H&M in its first South African designer collaboration, and a first for African Fashion. What a year so far for the African Fashion Industry and in particular for South African fashion.
The collection, to be made available from 15 August this year, will be sold in all South African stores as well as exclusive flagships around the world and all H&M online markets.
Palesa started her fashion journey at Stoned Cherrie, one of the first South African Fashion brands founded by Nkhensani Nkosi in 2000 and has been in the fashion industry for about 15 years.
Her brand, “Mantsho” was born in 2004/2005 and after literally ‘just winging it’ for the first couple of years, decided to go back to school to rebuild herself and reclaim her spot and space in the industry. The “Mantsho” we see today, has been built over the past 8 years after successfully completing her BA FASHION DESIGN degree.
“Mantsho” is a Sesotho name meaning “Black” . Palesa tells us that it was important to have a native name, something authentic so that when it lands globally and reaches the rest of the world, they will know it for its South African origin, which is exactly what is happening right now with this exciting collaboration! The name also embraces a certain attitude- a gloriously bold confident perspective which she personally embodies. And could not be more befitting for the times we are living in now.
Here are a few more things you should know about Mantsho by Palesa Mokubung:
- All the prints are authentically designed by Mantsho for the HM collection
- The collection will comprise 14 garments and 10 accessories made up of different items such as shoes, bags, earrings, etc.
- The latest Mantsho collection was shown at SA Fashion week last month . It was a collection of beautiful and luxurious clothes for every kind of women.
And Palesa is also expecting her first bundle of joy!
Congratulations! We wish her nothing but the best on this amazing journey.
Here at Fashion Handbook we are proud and excited!
