Whitfield County Fire Department and Dalton Shriners Host Successful Boot Drive for Kids
In an impactful display of community spirit, the Whitfield County Fire Department collaborated with the Dalton Shriners to conduct the ninth annual Boot Drive for Kids, amassing nearly ,000 in donations. The funds will be utilized to support the Santa-In-Uniform initiative and a specialized children’s burn unit located in Ohio, both of which are critical resources for children and families in dire need.
The event took place on a recent Saturday at various busy intersections throughout Whitfield County, where members from both organizations accepted donations from drivers. This grassroots effort not only raises essential funds but also promotes awareness of the pressing needs of local children who require specialized medical care.
Training Chief Sam Hammontree of the Whitfield County Fire Department emphasized the importance of the partnership between the fire department and the Shriners. He indicated that accessibility to pediatric burn care is limited, with only a handful of dedicated burn units within Georgia. “Most do not specifically focus on pediatric treatment,” he noted. Hammontree explained that in the event a child from Whitfield County requires burn care, families can reach out to either the Whitfield County Fire Department or the Dalton Shriners to obtain information regarding treatment centers. He assured that the organizations would facilitate transportation and medical treatment at no cost for families, covering a range of services from skin grafts to surgeries.
Over the years, the Boot Drive has significantly benefited community members, allowing the department to earn recognition with a room dedicated to the Whitfield County Fire Department at the children’s burn center.
