Laurens Electric Cooperative Employee Donates 0 to Cancer Center in Memory of a Friend

In a heartfelt gesture, Tyler Calvert, a Member Service Representative at Laurens Electric Cooperative, has made a 0 donation to the Prisma Health Upstate Foundation’s Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship. This act of charity honors the late Tiffany Sullivan of Greenville, who tragically passed away from cancer in November.

Calvert described the donation as a deeply personal tribute to a close friend who had become like family. “Tiffany was a close friend that turned into family,” she expressed. “This donation reflects the love she gave so freely and serves as a way to let her generosity live on.” Such sentiments encapsulate the emotional resonance of this contribution, emphasizing how personal relationships motivate community-driven philanthropy.

The Prisma Health Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship is dedicated to improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. As part of the larger Prisma Health system, which comprises Greenville Memorial Hospital and seven other acute-care facilities throughout the Upstate region, the center offers a comprehensive approach to cancer care. Their focus is not only on medical treatment but also on empowering patients through the cancer journey, ensuring that individuals and families receive the necessary support during and after treatment. As the largest nonprofit health organization in South Carolina, Prisma Health plays an integral role in addressing the healthcare needs of the community.

“I hope this contribution helps advance care, so fewer families experience the same loss,” Calvert stated, reflecting her desire to impact the lives of others positively through Tiffany’s legacy. This donation is part of the Laurens Electric Cooperative’s Pay It Forward program, which was initiated in 2015. Each month, Laurens Electric employees are entered into a random drawing with the chance to receive 0 for acts of kindness. Once selected, the employee has one month to determine how the funds will be utilized for charitable purposes.

The Pay It Forward initiative is designed to be budget-neutral, funded entirely through various charity events organized by employees who volunteer their time. This innovative program not only provides financial support for worthy causes but also encourages a culture of kindness and community involvement among employees.

Through her generous donation, Calvert has ensured that Tiffany Sullivan’s memory continues to inspire positive change, providing ongoing cancer care and survivorship services for countless patients and their families in the Upstate. This act of kindness illustrates the profound impact that personal dedication and community support can have in the fight against cancer, fostering hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
