The Menil Collection is currently showcasing a groundbreaking exhibition titled “Joe Overstreet: Taking Flight,” marking the first time in almost three decades that a major museum has dedicated a show to the work of this influential abstract painter.
Joe Overstreet, an American artist known for his unique approach to nonrepresentational painting, passed away in 2019 but his legacy lives on through his innovative artworks. Overstreet was dedicated to merging abstraction with social commentary, creating pieces that explore freedom and the Black experience in the United States.
