Providence and Compassus Join Forces to Enhance Home-Based Care Services

In a significant development for home health and hospice care, Providence, a leading not-for-profit health system serving the Western United States, has teamed up with Compassus, a national provider well-regarded for its integrated home-based care services. The two organizations recently announced their plans to create a joint venture named “Providence at Home with Compassus.” This collaboration is set to expand vital health services, providing home health, hospice care, community-based palliative care, and private duty caregiving to a larger population.

One of the noteworthy outcomes of this partnership is the rebranding of the Covenant Health hospice program in Lubbock, Texas, which will now operate under the name “Covenant Health at Home with Compassus.” This change is designed to strengthen the home care resources available in the region and enhance the overall patient experience.

Mike Asselta, CEO of Compassus, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting the shared vision and resources both organizations bring to the table. “Compassus has experience partnering with forward-looking nonprofit health systems to leverage combined strengths and resources to deliver high-quality home-based care in more communities,” he stated. With this joint venture, the goal is clear: to extend compassionate, person-centered care, allowing patients to receive health services primarily in the comfort of their own homes.

The agreement between Providence and Compassus outlines a comprehensive operational strategy. Compassus will take the lead in managing the operations of the joint venture, encompassing a robust network of home health locations across several states. Specifically, the initiative will include 24 home health locations in Alaska, California, Oregon, and Washington, alongside 17 hospice and palliative care sites scattered throughout Alaska, California, Texas, Oregon, and Washington. Additionally, private duty caregiving services will be available in Southern California.

Terri Warren, the Chief of Community Services at Providence, articulated the mission behind this joint venture: “Serving people in their homes, many of whom are at their most vulnerable, is sacred work and a deeply held part of the Providence mission.” As the aging population demands more home care, this collaboration is part of a broader strategy to meet rising healthcare needs. With Compassus eager to join forces, both organizations are committed to enhancing the range and quality of services available to patients and their families.

A critical aspect of this partnership involves the integration of innovative technology and devices designed to support nurses and caregivers providing in-home care. By focusing on the provision of cutting-edge resources, both Providence and Compassus aspire to ensure seamless continuity of care for patients. The partnership is not just about improving access but also about ensuring that care is delivered efficiently and compassionately.

As the healthcare landscape evolves, home-based care is becoming a focal point in ensuring patients receive optimal services in their preferred environments. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated many changes within healthcare, making the need for home health services more evident than ever. Families now seek options to keep their loved ones close to home for medical assistance, particularly during challenging times.

By pooling their expertise, Providence and Compassus aim to create a powerful resource for communities that require home health, hospice, palliative, and private duty caregiving services. The goal is to offer options that empower patients to choose where they want to receive care and to facilitate an environment where compassion is at the forefront.

In a world where healthcare choices continue to expand, the strategic partnership between Providence and Compassus is a promising step toward more accessible, high-quality home-based care. It emphasizes not only the service itself but also the fundamental human values of compassion and dignity in healthcare. As they move forward, this joint venture is poised to make a lasting impact on the wellbeing of patients and their families throughout Western America.

The need for such collaborations underscores the importance of building a healthcare system that genuinely prioritizes the preferences and needs of patients, ensuring that they receive the best possible care in settings that feel safe and familiar. The future looks promising for home-based healthcare services, thanks to innovative partnerships like that of Providence and Compassus, setting a precedent for integrated, compassionate care.
