Pre-K and Kindergarten Enrollment Begins February 2nd

Enrollment for Pre-K and Kindergarten Programs Opens in Union County Public Schools

Starting February 2, 2024, families in Union County will have the opportunity to enroll their children in pre-K and kindergarten programs offered by Union County Public Schools (UCPS). This initiative caters to a diverse range of educational needs, reflecting the district’s commitment to providing quality early education to its residents.

UCPS presents four distinct pre-K options aimed at fostering early childhood development. The Title I Pre-K program is a noteworthy free initiative available at eight of the district’s 13 Title I schools, focusing on supporting families from lower-income backgrounds. Additionally, the state-funded NC Pre-K program offers no-cost educational opportunities for families that meet specific income criteria, ensuring that eligible children have access to early learning resources.

The Pre-K Peer Pals program stands as a unique, fee-based initiative designed to integrate children with and without special needs, promoting inclusivity and social interaction from an early age. Furthermore, UCPS provides the Exceptional Children Pre-K program, which is also free, specifically catering to students requiring special education services. These diverse offerings illustrate UCPS’s dedication to accommodating various learning needs and backgrounds.

To help parents navigate the enrollment process and understand the various options available, UCPS will hold several informational sessions. These sessions will take place on:

February 5 at 5:30 p.m. at Porter Ridge High School
February 12 at 5:30 p.m. at Sun Valley High School
February 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Central Academy of Technology & Arts

These parent information sessions will allow families to connect with educators, explore the programs in detail, and ask questions regarding the enrollment process and educational philosophies.

In addition to pre-K, kindergarten enrollment is now open for children who turn five by August 31, 2024. Parents can complete the registration process online via Infinite Campus, making it convenient for families to secure a spot for their children as they embark on their formal education journey.

As Union County continues to prioritize early childhood education, the expansion of these programs represents a significant step toward ensuring that every child enters the school system prepared and excited to learn. Families are encouraged to take advantage of these resources as they prepare for their children’s educational futures. For more information about the enrollment process and available programs, parents are urged to visit the official UCPS website.
