Founded in 2005 by Mike and Joyce Ward, Ward Electric Company, Inc. has transformed from a modest family-owned venture into a prominent electrical contractor with a national presence. Headquartered in Longmont, Colorado, the company initially started with a mere three field employees and a fleet of six vehicles. Today, it boasts a workforce of over 565 full-time employees and manages an impressive fleet of more than 900 pieces of specialized equipment.
The company’s roots are firmly planted in high-voltage transmission and distribution, including work on substations. However, it has since diversified its service offerings to encompass renewable energy, as well as commercial, industrial, and residential electrical services. Originating from Colorado, Ward Electric has strategically expanded its operations across the United States, establishing itself as a reliable partner for clients who require intricate and large-scale electrical solutions.
Leadership transitions have played a crucial role in shaping the company’s trajectory. In 2012, Mark Ward became the Chief Executive Officer, and Matt Ward was appointed President, purchasing the company from their parents. At that juncture, the workforce had grown to just over 70 employees. Since their takeover, the company has nearly tenfold in size, reflecting their commitment to upholding the foundational values set by their parents while also enhancing the range of services offered. The Wards have placed a strong emphasis on leadership development, communication, and employee training—elements that they view as vital for sustaining growth. Recently, Ward Electric implemented a leadership training program aimed at strengthening management capabilities in the field, along with an online onboarding program designed to maintain cultural continuity among staff.
Beyond business operations, community involvement is a cornerstone of Ward Electric’s identity. The company supports various local initiatives, including schools, youth sports leagues, and nonprofit organizations, with a particular focus on programs aimed at assisting children with special needs. In 2022, the Wards established the JoyForWARD Foundation in memory of their late mother, Joyce Ward, who had served as president until her passing in 2020. The foundation focuses on supporting a range of causes, including faith-based education, nursing initiatives, veterans’ programs, and advocacy for individuals with special needs. Notably, in 2024 alone, Ward Electric and the JoyForWARD Foundation contributed over 0,000 to regional nonprofit efforts.
